About the Broderson Awards

Maine Ad + Design Broderson Awards were created more than 40 years ago in memory of Dick Broderson, a radio personality and advertising professional who was dedicated to excellence in creativity. The awards recognize Maine agencies and professionals for exhibiting this same dedication in their own creative endeavors.

Important Details for our 2023 Awards:

  • Your best work. Submit as many times as you want and feature your best creative. Work produced from March 1, 2021-March 1, 2023 will be accepted.

  • Maine-based work is eligible. Submissions are open to any advertising, marketing or creative professional who has an office in Maine.

  • Range of awards categories. Digital, social and more. Explore all categories and find entry details here.

  • Flexible and simple entry process. Create a profile, upload your submissions and add up to 150 words of description for each. Our Judgify judging platform makes it simple.

Do I need to be a MADE member to attend the event?

Nope! Everyone is welcome to attend. Registration can be found here.

Are there any discount event tickets for MADE members?

Sure are! You should have received an email from us with your discount code. Be sure to check the email you used when you joined MADE!

Are there any discount event tickets for students?

Students can receive 50% off their ticket if they are MADE members! If you’re not a MADE member yet, sign up today because student membership is FREE! You’ll be emailed a discount code after you sign up.

What are the requirements for submission?

Submit as many times as you want & feature your best creative! Work produced between March 1, 2021-March 1, 2023 will be accepted.

Do I have to be a Maine Ad + Design member to submit work?

Any Maine-based work is eligible. Submissions are open to any advertising, marketing or creative professional who resided in Maine when work was completed. 

What are the categories this year?

Will there be a live event this year?

Yes! The Brodersons Awards Ceremony will be hosted live and in-person at UNE Innovation Hall!

When are the 2023 Broderson Awards?

The awards will be held Thursday, June 1, 2023 from 6-9 PM. To register for the event please view our events page.

How much does it cost to submit?

Submission pricing is as follows:

  • March 27 (first day of submissions) - April 2: Early bird rate of $60 per submission

  • April 3-April 9: $80 per submission

  • April 10-April 21 (last day of submissions): $100 per submission

Student Work submissions are free.

When do awards submissions open?

How do I submit an entry?

There is a flexible and simple entry process for submission. Create a profile, upload your submissions and add up to 150 words of description for each. Our Judgify judging platform makes it simple.

Many common file types are accepted and submissions can be entered all at once, or during multiple sessions with one easy billing completed at the end.

2023 Award Categories

Annual Reports, Brochures, Corporate Collateral, Corporate Event Design: Assets created for education, outreach or awareness for a client, event, cause or campaign. Should represent real world work and may include descriptive paragraph underscoring the strategy or inspiration behind the execution.

Corporate or Brand Identity, Logos and Marks: Visual assets created to represent a corporation or brand. Work submitted can include consumer, trade or B2B logotypes, logos and trademarks, brand standards manuals or other visual assets and up to 150 words describing strategy and inspiration behind execution.

Audio, Podcast, Audio design: Any audio only production including commercials, podcasts, audiobooks, or content either for broadcast or streaming. All submissions should be in MP3 with the script.

TV Campaign, Spot or Video: Individual 15 to 60-second spots, viral, pre-roll, post-roll or long format content. This includes commercials produced by and/or for television stations, commercials for businesses (retail, service or merchandising businesses) or creative of any length that was produced for use online. Can include up to 150 words of descriptive text.

*Experiential, AI, AR, VR, Web3, NFT, Metaverse: Any live event, physical environment, virtual space, or experience that connects the brand with the consumer. Work submitted can include consumer events, AR applications, VR experiences, and AI integration as well as new technology involving Web3, NFT, or the Metaverse. Any category where your entry itself is interactive or contains interactive content, you will need to provide a URL link to the website, mobile application or game.

Package design: Single packages and product lines accepted. Please submit as a single PDF or up to five images in a line. Can include up to 150 words of descriptive text.

*Print & Poster Category: Full page, small space print, poster or banner design created for promotion of a client, event, cause or campaign. Can include a single creative execution or up to five examples from a campaign. Can include up to 150 words of descriptive text.

Outdoor advertising (signage, posters, etc.): Large scale or small - promotional outdoor advertising posters, signage, POS displays or banner design created for promotion of a client, event, cause or campaign. Should represent real world work and may include descriptive paragraph underscoring the strategy or inspiration behind the execution.

Digital advertising and Rich Media: All encompassing Digital advertising category to include: Digital Ads (Interactive and/or creative use of online ads, including clickable banners, floating ads, etc.), Digital video (Viral, pre-roll, post-roll or long format content. Should include creative of any length that was produced for use online.), Digital Interactive and/or Rich media (Promotional elements or digital ads that include an interactive or rich media experience. Includes in-app, page takeovers or other interactive elements.)

Social Media Campaigns: Paid or organic social media campaigns - Paid social media advertising, which received paid placement, boosts, paid social media influencers or paid “native” content advertising on social media channels. Generally intended to support brand, cause or product awareness, lead generation, sales or similar objectives. Can include a single creative execution or up to five examples from a campaign. OR Organic social media programs that did not receive paid placement or a budget, and received only organic reach. Generally intended to support community-building, engagement, brand, cause or product awareness or similar objectives. Includes crowdsourced, hashtag or social movement campaigns, user generated content campaigns, influencer campaigns and other similar activations.

Web design, App development: All encompassing Web design and App development category to include - E-commerce websites for a business or corporation intended for the purchase and sale of products, lead generation websites intended for the collection of contact information, and or app development for a unique digital mobile experience. Any category where your entry itself is interactive or contains interactive content, you will need to provide a URL link to the website, mobile application or game.

Integrated Marketing Campaign Category above $50,000: Advertising and marketing work that integrates multiple media, channels or activities to relay a message, create brand awareness or drive a result. For this category, entrants may include a video explanation or description of strategy and results and up to five examples of the campaign. For campaigns with budget above $50,000.

Cause-driven campaign / asset: Any website, campaign, and or asset created/produced for a non-profit, pro-bono or for a corporation intended for the promotion of a cause, movement or collection of donations. Any category where your entry itself is interactive or contains interactive content, you will need to provide a URL link to the website, mobile application or game. Password information must be provided for password protected sites. Please include a maximum of five screen grabs (JPG or as a PDF). These will be used for the winning entries at the show, and as a backup for judging if there are problems with your URL.

*Food & Beverage & Cannabis: Any website, campaign, and or asset created/produced for or by a company in the food & beverage industry. Any category where your entry itself is interactive or contains interactive content, you will need to provide a URL link to the website, mobile application or game. Password information must be provided for password protected sites. Please include a maximum of five screen grabs (JPG or as a PDF). These will be used for the winning entries at the show, and as a backup for judging if there are problems with your URL.

Student Work: Award entry must be submitted by a student currently enrolled in an educational program, and should not have been created as a paid project for a client or business. Award may represent any type of advertising or marketing creative, but must be submitted as a PDF. (For packaging design or other three dimensional elements, please submit photography of the piece in a PDF format.) Student award submissions are free. All entries will be submitted for scholarship consideration, five total scholarships will be awarded at the event. Valid for students graduating in 2023 or later.

The Cumberland Award: Work must have been created by a Maine resident for a Maine-based company under a budget of less than $5,000. Award may represent any type of advertising or marketing creative, but must be submitted as a PDF. Cumberland award submissions are free. (For packaging design or other three dimensional elements, please submit photography of the piece in a PDF format.)

The MADE together Award: Work must have been created by two or more MADE members/member organizations working together. Award may represent any type of advertising or marketing creative, but must be submitted as a PDF. MADE together award submissions are free. (For packaging design or other three dimensional elements, please submit photography of the piece in a PDF format.)

Self Promotion: Any ad or collateral piece used for the purpose of self-promotion. Can include up to 150 words of descriptive text.

Pitched but Ditched: Advertising or marketing work that you loved, but that didn't make the real world cut. Can include up to 150 words of descriptive text.

Creative Elements - Photography: Any photography used in the context of an advertisement or collateral piece. Can include up to 150 words of descriptive text.

Creative Elements - Illustration: Any illustration used in the context of an advertisement or collateral piece. Can include up to 150 words of descriptive text.

*Creative Elements - Animation: Any animation used in the context of an advertisement or branding. Can include up to 150 words of descriptive text.

*Creative Elements - Copywriting, Content Writing, Taglines, and Renaming: Any copywriting, taglines, or renames used in the context of an advertisement or branding. Can include up to 150 words of descriptive text.

The work will be judged by ThinkNW. Again, this year your work will be seen and judged by expert representatives in the OTHER Portland hailing from legendary shops and major organizations.

Submission Rules & Guidelines

Decisions of judges, including eligibility, qualifications and appropriate placements, are final. 

File Formats and Details:

Digital/Interactive Submission: URL, login information for password protected sites, up to five screen grabs in PDF or JPEG format. (Can be accompanied by PDF documentation as one of five elements uploaded)

  • Print, Photography or Illustration: .doc .pdf .png or .jpeg (PDFS preferred)

  • Broadcast: .mp3 .mp4 .mov (can be accompanied by PDF stills or documentation)

Entrants may include an explanation (150 words or less) describing client needs, brief, or strategy that informed the creative execution.

Student Submissions: Free to enter. Award entry must be submitted by a student currently enrolled in an educational program, and should not have been created as a paid project for a client or business. Award may represent any type of advertising or marketing creative, but must be submitted as a PDF. (For packaging design or other three dimensional elements, please submit photography of the piece in a PDF format.)
